In Charlestown, a man was found guilty in Washington County Superior Court of sexually assaulting an 18-year-old woman five years ago in Narragansett, Rhode Island Attorney General Peter F. Neronha announced.

Angelo Fraley was convicted of one count of first-degree sexual assault after a jury-waived trial, Neronha said in a press release.

During the trial before Superior Court Judge Melanie Wilk Thunberg, the state proved that on June 30, 2015, Fraley sexually assaulted the woman near an abandoned building by the beach at the University of Rhode Island's Bay Campus in Narragansett. Neither Fraley nor the victim had ties to URI, the university said previously.

Fraley and the victim spent time together on the day of the assault with a group of friends at the beach in Narragansett, Neronha said. After the friends left that night, Fraley and the victim stayed near the beach where he then sexually assaulted her, according to Neronha.

A status date will be set to schedule possible post-trial motions or a potential sentencing hearing, Neronha said. Captain Mike Chalek of the University of Rhode Island Police Department led the investigation, Neronha said. Assistant Attorney General Mark Trovato prosecuted the case.
