Man Arrested After Pursuit And Spitting Blood On Officers

A man from Storm Lake was arrested after eluding law enforcement and spitting blood on officers who took him to the emergency room for minor injuries.

Police responded to 612 E. Fifth St. for an intoxicated male trying to leave the residence in a vehicle. Officers observed the suspect fleeing in a vehicle northbound in an alleyway, then subsequently struck two parked cars and a house at 714 Superior St., causing $13,500 in damages.

Alan Martinez was arrested and taken to Buena Vista Regional Medical Center, where he was treated and released for minor injuries from the accident. He was charged with eluding, operating while intoxicated, interference with official acts and two counts of assault by inmate with bodily fluids.

Martinez was additionally cited for reckless driving, careless driving, failure to yield to emergency vehicle, failure to maintain control, striking unattended vehicle, failure to use safety belts, failure to yield upon entering a through highway, failure to provide proof of financial liability and operating an unregistered vehicle. Martinez was held on $17,300 bond.

In Virginia, 3 people have been arrested following a slow-speed pursuit in Charlottesville and Albemarle County. The incident occurred when ACPD officers attempted to stop a Ford Focus for defective equipment.

The driver did not stop and ran through several red traffic signals. The pursuit continued into the city, where the driver stopped and let out two passengers who were later arrested by the Charlottesville Police Department.

The driver then continued on until stopping on Valley Road where ACPD officers took him into custody without further incident. The driver, identified as Hunter Brown is facing charges of disregarding or eluding law enforcement command, driving without a license, defective equipment, and reckless driving.

One of the passengers, Kristina C. Napier of Charlottesville, is facing charges of obstructing police and animal control officer and assault on law enforcement.

The other passenger, Roger T. Price of Staunton, has been arrested on multiple outstanding warrants, including two counts of violating probation on a felony offense and contempt of court.

During the arrest, police recovered stolen merchandise from local retail stores and drug paraphernalia.
