A 51-year-old woman from Decherd was arrested for allegedly filing a false police report against a man she had differences with over his stance on wanting to change the Franklin County High School Rebel mascot and name.
Police identified the suspect,Tanya Jenine Hill. She was arrested and released on her own recognizance in connection with reporting that a domestic disturbance had occurred at 914 W. Market St. where B.J. Anderson, an organizer with Franklin County TN Against Hate, resides.
She is to appear in General Sessions Court at 8 a.m. on Jan. 11, 2021.
Decherd police reports said officers were dispatched at about 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 28 to 914 W. Market St. in response to a domestic-disturbance-in-progress being reported.
Reports said that Hill had allegedly told dispatchers that she had several messages from family members that Anderson was causing a disturbance at the residence. Reports said she added that the issue was about his guns missing or being stolen.
Police responded to the call and walked around the property, and it sounded like no one was home, reports said, adding that they could hear nothing from inside the residence. Officers then talked to Anderson, and he said he was doing a podcast, and he had been on the internet for some time.
Officers talked to Anderson’s mother, Mickie Anderson, and she said she felt safe and didn’t know what was going on.
She added that her son had never raised his voice toward her, and nothing had happened, reports said. She also stated she didn’t know who would have made the statements to police, reports said. Officers looked in the house and nothing seemed out of place.
Anderson said he had been on a Facebook page about removing the school mascot, and Hill is the one he got into some stuff on Facebook.
Officer Daniel Wockason said in his report that he called Hill, and she stated that she had received about 15 emails related to Anderson.
Anderson said he and Hill don’t personally know each other, but they only know of each other. Hill was later arrested in connection with the incident.
